13 Jan 10 Lorem Ipsum: Previews of 2010 Updates!

So, there are a couple pretty exciting updates coming your way this month on The New Mirador:

  • The long-awaited short story The Traveler. It’s a short story set in the far future of man’s recurring contacts with a unique form of extraterrestrial life.
  • My much-requested 20 Things I Love list. A lot of people wanted to see what I loved after the hate list. Awaiting permission from the honorific superhero of the list!
  • I am finally getting some professional photos of myself taken. They’ll be posted here first!
  • A grand movie review of Avatar. I’ll be seeing it in 3D…let’s see what the morally relative atheist thinks of the blockbuster.
  • I also am working on two side projects. My first two clients are developing new websites. I’ll be writing and showing my methods and work here!

I’m also pleased and proud to announce two new contributors to The New Mirador: a horror story writer and an emerging artist and photographer!

  • JD Billo will be writing some of his new horror story content for the New Mirador. His work will be cutting-edge and excellent topics for my short-stories section.
  • BridgeyAnn Artisan Studio will be posting some of her latest work, which has lately been focused on charcoal portraits of icons in the prime of their life. She has a bunch of cool new work in the wings that will be coming out in 2010, including a sensual exhibit called The Lady in Red!

31 Oct 09 “…restrictions on personal behavior become increasingly untenable.”

A fascinating article from Newsweek–and that’s saying a lot, coming from me. Check out the story Jacob Weisberg wrote on a liberalizing society. It has such fabulous snippets (like my title of this blog):

Our forms of prohibition are more sins of omission than commission. Rather than trying to take away longstanding rights, they’re instances of conservative laws failing to keep pace with a liberalizing society. But like Prohibition in the ’20s, these restrictions have become indefensible as well as impractical, and as a result are fading fast. Within 10 years, it seems a reasonable guess that Americans will travel freely to Cuba, that all states will recognize gay unions, and that few will retain criminal penalties for marijuana use by individuals. These reforms are inevitable—not because politics has changed, but because society has.

15 Jan 09 The New Mirador

Originally, I had a blog on Livejournal under the title “Mirador” where I would write about everything. Livejournal is a bit more than Wordpress, because of its integration of community and social tools–but so far, I’m really enjoying my development work here on Wordpress. Some of the main users that I have had over the past few months are kinda moving away from the environment, and I’d really like to pull them over to Wordpress. Now it’s a matter of increasing readership and getting my content online!

Some of these first posts will be directly related to how Wordpress is running and how the rollout is going. I’ll also be posting some of my short stories that I’ve been writing for your enjoyment.

Are you a geek? Do you love the science fiction? How about gaming, or maybe fencing? Or perhaps you’re a Youtube addict, like me? You’ve come to the right place.
